Positions Available:
Culex Environmental is seeking to fill three part-time positions for professional taxonomists with at least three years of experience in identifying the following groups.
- Phytoplankton and Periphyton Taxonomist
- Zooplankton Taxonomist
- Bentic Macroinvertebrate Taxonomist
Identification will be required to be carried out to practical levels of identification. Primary duties involve sorting and identification of samples and collating results.
Location: Our lab is located in Burnaby BC, but work may be carried out at other locations.
Qualifications: The major responsibility of the Taxonomist will be the identification of samples to practical levels of identification. We work in a production environment where accuracy is critical and speed is of the essence. The majority of our samples are collected from Western Canada, so the successful candidate will be expected to be familiar with a wide range of taxa from this region. The Taxonomist will also be responsible for ensuring rigorous quality control.
A Master's degree in the biological sciences is preferable; however, we will consider applicants with demonstrated relevant experience.
Compensation: Remuneration will be dependent on experience and qualifications.
